It was a double whammy for Elfyn Evans last weekend, as he was awarded the prestigious Tom Pryce Memorial Trophy just weeks after winning the 2016 British Rally Championship.

It's the second time an Evans family member has scored a double victory in the same year - his father Gwyndaf was awarded WMW’s inaugural Tom Pryce Trophy in 1996 having won the BRC that year, with Elfyn replicating the feat exactly 20 years later.

The Automotive Achievement Award went to Riversimple of Llandrindod Wells for the radically innovative Rasa lightweight hydrogen-powered prototype car. Road-legal and built for full European Type Approval, it can cover 300 miles on 1.5kg of Hydrogen and has the lowest 'well-to-wheel' carbon emissions of any vehicle. The awards were presented by HM Lord-Lieutenant for Gwynedd, Edmund S Bailey.

Elfyn said: “It is a great honour to receive this award especially since it is twenty years since my father was awarded it having himself won the BRC in 1996. It is also an opportunity to thank my family, friends, supporters and not least of course the team who have worked brilliantly for me throughout such a challenging season."

Riversimple Founder Hugo Spowers said: “We are surprised and delighted by this award, a tribute to the outstanding talent and creativity of the whole Riversimple team. The Rasa was launched this year to great acclaim and we are confident it can bring a momentous change in the way mobility is delivered in a sustainable way.  Exciting developments are planned for 2017, including a 20-car beta test in Monmouthshire.”

The presentation took place at one of Gwyndaf Evans's car dealerships, a joint Ford and Suzuki franchise, in Dolgellau. The presentation and awards gala dinner were sponsored by Ford Motor Company, which has a significant presence in Wales with an engine plant in Bridgend.

WMW chairman Huw Thomas added: “Early in the last century the first motor car at most towns and villages in Wales was the Ford Model T. The company remains market leader here and has a major engine manufacturing centre at Bridgend. We at WMW are most grateful to Ford for its support for this year’s Annual Awards."

Impressive. Where can a person learn more about the Riversimple Raza and developments?

Will it have a red dragon symbol?
