Established on St David’s Day 2001, Wales Air Ambulance has launched almost 23,000 emergency flights and one of its three helicopters can reach any part of Wales in 20 minutes – vitally important in capitalising on the crucial window for treatment and recovery.
The Welshpool-based aircraft covers central Wales and Marcher Country undertaking a considerable amount of cross-border work. The helicopter can be in the air within three minutes of a call at a cost of £1,500 each time.
WMW Chairman Huw Thomas said: “Wales Air Ambulance is a priceless asset in a country such as ours. On a daily basis it makes the difference between life and death. Support is needed and we are pleased to respond."

As group technical editor for Road Transport Media his work appears in leading publications such as Commercial Motor, Motor Transport and Truck & Driver.
Born and brought up in Llandrindod Wells before moving to London, Colin Barnett has maintained contact with Wales and the Marcher Country both in terms of work and friends and family. Known throughout the road transport industry here, as for the rest of the UK, applying to join WMW was a “very easy decision” for him.
Mr Thomas added: "All of us at WMW are delighted to welcome Colin Barnett to our midst. Colin brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge and, on many fronts, will add great value to the group."
