Two organisations that have made significant contributions to the economy in Wales were presented with Welsh Motoring Writers’ two top accolades on Saturday night.

The Tom Pryce Memorial Trophy recognises the achievements of Anglesey Circuit-Trac Môn as it celebrates its 25th Anniversary and also 10th Anniversary of the £4m reconfiguration featuring, most appropriately, the Tom Pryce Straight.

The Terry Davies Automotive Award (formerly Automotive Achievement Award) goes to General Dynamics Land Systems-UK for its world class armoured fighting vehicles and latest AJAX reconnaissance fleet for the British Army creating major employment opportunities at its Merthyr Tydfil base.

The awards presentation was made at the Quay Hotel & Spa, Deganwy beside the Conwy Estuary, by HM Lord-Lieutenant for Gwynedd, Edmund S Bailey.

Anglesey Circuit – Trac Môn MD Andrew Crighton said: “It is always an honour to receive an award, and I take great pleasure in accepting the Tom Pryce Memorial Trophy on behalf of Anglesey Circuit as we celebrate our 25th anniversary this week.

“With continued investment and development Trac Môn and its facilities has become one of Europe’s most popular and technically demanding motor-sport venues for a variety of disciplines. It offers a unique location for race organisers, track day operators, car manufacturers, race teams and media - all taking advantage of a highly versatile site against one of the most stunning coastal backdrops anywhere.”

Kevin Connell, vice president of General Dynamics Land Systems–UK, said: “General Dynamics Land Systems–UK is delighted to receive the Terry Davies Automotive Award. We are proud to be based in Merthyr Tydfil as we re-establish a UK capability for the Assembly, Integration and Test of Armoured Fighting Vehicles - the British Army’s new AJAX reconnaissance fleet in particular. We have a strong, local workforce determined to deliver vehicles enabling the Army to do its job safely and effectively.”

WMW Chairman Huw Thomas added: “This is a great opportunity for both WMW and Anglesey Circuit/Trac Mon to celebrate our 25th Anniversaries in the memory of Tom Pryce. Similarly it is timely to recognise the military vehicle expertise of General Dynamics and its world-class AJAX range produced in Wales. Last, but very much not least, we at WMW are most grateful to Vauxhall Motors for its consistent support in the past and again this year in supporting our annual awards.”
