Wales will have its own car awards in 2019 in a new partnership with the Welsh Automotive Forum.

The awards will be presented at the WAF Annual Dinner, a black tie event attended by around 400 members representing the automotive industry in Wales.

Introducing the Car Awards Wales initiative at the 2018 annual dinner of WAF, CEO Tim Williams said: “Jointly with WMW we have a special announcement to make. More details in the New Year but our aim is to create a select and limited number of awards, each of equal value, grounded in the Welsh Automotive sector.

“They will also take account of innovation here in the areas of powertrain and propulsion technology. We plan to make the first Car Awards Wales presentations at our next Annual Dinner a year from now.”

WMW Chairman Huw Thomas added: “One thing we can say at the outset is that this will not be yet another ‘Car of the Year’ competition. We will be looking to recognise automotive excellence and outcomes which really make a difference from both a product and manufacturing perspective.”

WMW members are also delighted with the recent of the success of both Alex Grant and Rachel Boagey at the 2018 Guild of Motoring Writers Awards.

Alex won the AA Campaigning Journalist of the Year award while Rachel was highly commended in the BCA Feature Writer of the Year category.

Huw Thomas commented: “Both Alex and Rachel are valued members of WMW and a real asset to the group.

"Alex’s award is especially timely as he leaves Fleet World for a freelance career. It is a real privilege to have them as colleagues and they take with them our very best wishes for the future.”
