Welsh Motoring Writers continues to register progress this year with a further new member and prestigious media award to a veteran of the group.
We are very pleased to announce that Simon McBride has joined Welsh Motoring Writers. Simon is a well-known motoring journalist, editor and author working across print, digital and television titles.
Originally from County Antrim, Simon is now based in Marple, Cheshire.
A graduate of the University of East London he has a range of journalism qualifications and a CV which includes top flight monthly and weekly publications. His expertise includes radio work and his first book (on Kris Meeke) was published by Veloce in 2010.

A rewarding period in the press and PR department at Volkswagen added value to an impressive track record but he is now happy to have returned to a busy freelance working life.
WMW veteran Peter Roberts retired from his post as public relations director for the Farmers Union of Wales earlier this year. At the Royal Welsh Show subsequently he was presented with the Union’s annual Bob Davies Memorial Award. Bob Davies was Wales correspondent of the Farmers Weekly and the award is offered to a media personality who has raised the profile of Welsh farming.
FUW president Glyn Roberts said: “I would warmly like to thank Peter for his outstanding service to the FUW and Welsh agriculture, not only during his time with the union but also during his many years as a respected journalist”.
Peter Roberts remains active in journalism and will continue to be the editor of the FUW’s monthly newspaper, Y Tir/Welsh Farmer which includes, of course, its extensive Motoring & Machinery section.
WMW Chairman Huw Thomas said: “I am delighted to welcome Simon McBride to WMW. Simon is a highly regarded professional journalist who has built up a significant media presence. I am sure he will be a major asset to the group.
"All here at WMW will applaud the words of Glyn Roberts in presenting Peter Roberts with his award. Peter has made an outstanding contribution to Welsh journalism since his days as a young trainee reporter on the Carmarthen Journal nearly fifty years ago”.
